Zach and The Information He Consume's
My Career, Education, Hobbies
Hi, my name is Zach Levesque. I'm Studying Business administration at Linn-Benton Community College. I graduated High School last year and plan to graduate from Linn-Benton this summer. As for my career plans, I passed the Oregon Real Estate Broker exam last week. I plan to return to my hometown where I will be employed by Windermere Country Roads Realty. My plan after I have finished my mentorship as a broker is to move from residential Real Estate to commercial Real Estate. I want to end up not only selling commercial properties but owning rentals and apartment complexes.
I look forward to taking one of Rob's classes again. Yes, the media and society class sounded fun for an elective to take but I am more excited for Rob to help me market better and learn more skills I can apply in my Real Estate career. I have really found a path in the field of health and fitness and have acquired a new hobby in the past year. Prioritizing my diet and training I have been able to learn a lot about my body and grow both knowledge and muscle which has been extremely accomplishing.
The Information I Consume?
My Sources for information are nothing short of lacking. I'm simply lazy when it comes to gathering information for the news or basic topics I am curious about. TikTok is my go-to because I have little attention span for long-form content. It's fast, easy, and mostly efficient. Now besides this, I would not call TikTok a good source of information because there is a lot of bias on the platform, and is difficult for people to navigate through the fake news and find the truth. YouTube is great for me because I can pinpoint exactly what information I need to acquire and get it as direct as possible. Something about YouTube content makes it easier to identify whether it is extremely biased and not truthful but regardless is probably still not the best platform for collecting information if it's not significant to the procedures of a task.
I am concerned about the media ecosystem from the consumer's point of view. How is it even remotely
possible to identify what is the truth when differing information between a judge and the president. People of power who tell the public two different things draw a hard line for viewers as we believe, subconsciously that people of the law are given little choice but to convey the truth. With uncertain information like this, I speak about it to make sure my listener knows both sides of the information I have heard and let them summarize what they hear rather than summarize the information from both parties. This helps you avoid your listener thinking you are biased or trying to relay false information.
Platforms like TikTok and YouTube have absolutely zero obligations for their viewers and I also believe this is for the good. The fact that no platforms are operated the same gives them their purpose. Social media at the end of the day is entertainment not news. Although the news is acquired on these platforms, it's not directly known for giving up-to-date news. The fact that I can go on TikTok and YouTube to see people's different videos about the same topic is exactly what I want. I want to be able to formulate my own opinion and idea of what the truth is. For accuracy purposes tho, I would reference a reliable news article or outlet for information but most of the time all I need is a good idea of what happened and I can hang in the conversations about the news.
